Tough Times Don’t Last...but Tough People Do
by Jacqueline Stader
This sign was posted in the optical shop at a practice I had worked in many many moons ago and it made me smile. Partly because I know the people who posted it and they make me smile regardless of what life is dealing them. But also because the simple fact is that it’s true.
It comes down to the glass is half empty or the glass is half full. If you are of the notion that the glass is always half full you’ll see the positive side of this statement. Yes bad things happen but we don’t let them get us down. On the other hand, if you favor the glass is always half empty notion then this statement would make it difficult for you to believe that the current state of the world is reversible.
Whether you are a half full or half empty personality the best way to prevent anything negative from happening in your research efforts is be knowledgeable. Learn all you can and take all that you do in research seriously. So that when you encounter a hiccup (which we all will) at least we know the tough times won’t last...but we will!
